The Propa Eats Cook Up: Sangre Grande

The Propa Eats Cook Up: Sangre Grande

This weekend, on Sunday, August 11, we hosted our second cooking competition at Ojoe Road Recreation Grounds in Sangre Grande. While the Guardian Community Games were in full swing, eight teams — #ClubEtings, Grays Delight, Irish Master Broth, Tri-Soup & Ate Her, Toco/Sangre Grande Youth League, Last Minute Crew, Hilltoppers vSteel Pan Academy and counsellor Aiderman Bidaisee — bubbled pots of soup and broth, competing to win the hearts of our judges: Drew Howell (Propa Eats’ videographer and self-proclaimed food expert), Zaak Mustapha (critic behind the blog ‘Foodie Tales with Zaak’) and Thaddy Boom (comedian, nail tech, and spoken word artist).

PLOT TWIST! Each team had to make use of TWO secret ingredients: Karibbean Flavours’ Browning Caramel and Grace Foods’ Whole Kernel Sweer Corn. Many chefs mixed it into their broths; others made pepper sauce. To make this week’s competition even more difficult, we threw in an ‘Ice Cream Sundae Challenge’ using Nestle’s products. #ClubEtings won based on taste and presentation, winning 5 extra points towards the final results. After 3 hours of pressure and mega amounts of heat, judges announced the winners. Grays Delight came in third, Toco/Sangre Grande Youth League came in second and in first place Last Minute Crew — who served a spread of spicy corn, fry dry, mannish water and fish broth. They took home a huge hamper of Karibbean Flavours seasonings and sauces and a 40″ Smart TV from Standard Distributors Limited.
