The Propa Eats Cook Up: San Fernando

The Propa Eats Cook Up: San Fernando

Our finale for the first ever ‘Propa Eats Cook Up’ ended on a high note with our talented competitors firing up the coals for some tasty trini BBQ, fries and macaroni salad. All of that was served outside last Sunday, September 9th at Skinner Park, San Fernando. The cooking crews that participated in this round were Estrada’s Creative Creations, Smokey’s Pit Stop, Annie’s Delicious Delights, Pat’s Sweet Hand, Sweet Hand Cuisine and a Taste of Brooklyn. Each team served up their unique twist of BBQ chicken, lamb, pigtail and shrimp to win the hearts of our judges: Tricia Gregoire (award-winning national chef) Thaddy Boom (comedian, nail tech and spoken word artist), Zaak Mustapha (blogger of Foodie Tales with Zaak), Anitá Seeboo (blogger of Anita’s Circadian), and Christal ( blogger of @idreamofoodie).

PLOT TWIST! Each competitor had to incorporate the cook-off’s secret ingredient from Grace Foods: Jerk Seasoning Sauce. A bonus round was also thrown into the mix utilizing a ‘Mystery Box’ containing Nestle’s products and some interesting ‘secret’ ingredients for the ‘Ice Cream Sundae Challenge’. This sweet yet unexpected surprise had our cooks thinking up how to use these fun mystery items such as Apple Jacks cereal, chocolate syrup and bananas, a staple ingredient for a delicious sundae.

After three hours of firing up their grills, our judges tasted each dish and decided on the grand winner. Smokey’s Pit Stop came in first, serving our judges with an exciting combo of BBQ lamb, chicken and grilled shrimp kebabs with a side of crispy fries, homemade, hand-cut cassava fries and a traditional macaroni salad. They took home a huge food hamper courtesy of Multi Food Processors Limited and Grace Foods and a 40″ Smart TV from Standard Distributors Limited.
