DAIRY DAIRY CHURROS WITH CARAMEL SAUCE

Yields: 4 Servings

Total Time: 35 mins

INGREDIENTS
  • For churros:
    • 1 cup water
    • 2 ½ tablespoons white sugar
    • ½ teaspoon salt
    • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
    • 1 cup all-purpose flour
    • Oil for frying
    • ½ cup white sugar
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • For caramel:
    • 1 cup sugar
    • ¾ cup water, divided
    • ¼ cup Dairy Dairy Full Cream Milk Powder
    • 1 tablespoon butter
    • ¼ teaspoon salt
DIRECTIONS
  1. Stir Dairy Dairy Full Cream Milk Powder and ½ cup water into a measuring cup and set aside.
  2. Add sugar and ¼ cup water to a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir until combined; mixture will bubble high and vigorously. Let the sugar mixture turn a light golden-brown colour and then immediately remove from heat. Using a long wooden spoon, stir in Dairy Dairy Full Cream Milk Powder mixture a little at a time. Add butter and mix until evenly combined.
  3. In a large pot, over medium heat, add water, oil, sugar and salt until it comes to a boil. Using a wooden spoon, mix in flour and stir until a dough forms. When the dough begins to pull away from the sides of the pot, remove from heat.
  4. Heat oil for frying. Place dough into a piping bag and pipe strips into the oil; fry until golden-brown. Drain on paper towels.
  5. Mix sugar and cinnamon together; toss the churros in this mixture. Serve with caramel.
